In this chic sewing book, patternmaker Dolin Bliss O'Shea pulls inspiration from famous LBDs throughout history—including Mary Quant's mod mini, a classic wrap dress worn by Liza Minelli, Princess Diana's smart A-line, and more—and offers patterns for reinterpreted versions that are perfectly stylish. Including 10 full dress patterns with sewing variations to make 20 garments in all, a primer on sewing techniques, vintage photographs of style icons, and full-color shots of the finished pieces, this book has everything fashionistas need to bring timeless style right into their closets.

The sewing machine, set to width 2 and length 2) can be used on most knit-fabric seams. So that is my starting point when testing out sewing with a new knit fabric. Most newer machines have fancier knit-specific stitches that you can use and try out for yourself. I don’t use these stitches much and they are more difficult to rip out if you make a mistake. For horizontal seams like shoulder or waist seams, which need more strength, I like to do double-stitched seams. To do this, make a zigzag seam.

Ways you can finish a neckline and the armhole edges on a knit garment. For this book, we will use two of my favorites, single-layer binding and binding as a facing. Single-layer binding is a binding that is visible on both the outside and inside of the garment. It wraps around a raw edge, and for these projects, stretches with the garment. Binding as a facing is only visible from the inside and for our purposes is a more stable, less stretchy option. In this case, you see the topstitching that.
